Hello!
I’m The Alternate, nice to meet you!
I’m a self taught, primarily 2D artist with emphasis in chalk pastel, ink and watercolor, and metal. I recently received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, and am also a UW Madison PEOPLE Alum, having been a participant since 2015.
My undergraduate work functioned as a means of self regulation in response to my daily struggles with mental health. My primary focus was my flowers and the world they inhabit. One can interpret them as a collective consciousness or as individual forms. Either way, my relationship with them continues to be sacred as they were my greatest comfort. They welcomed me into their world to breathe and simply exist as myself. They spoke to me when no one else would, and thus I am incredibly grateful.
I also made COMICS!!
I was very fortunate to learn from Jeff Butler and Lynda Barry several times under UW’s Making Comics classes. Ever since I created my first character at 11 years old, I had a dream to one day produce my own animated series (think Disney style cartoons like Gravity Falls and Star vs The Forces of Evil). This dream persisted until Making Comics 1, where I discovered comics as a more manageable way of producing the story now known as Entelement.
My current aspirations include the eventual publishing of the Entelement series as a long form web comic; and the opening of an online store where you can buy some flowers and anything else I make (I also have quite a lot of hobbies…)!
