Hello!

If you’re new here, welcome!

Please call me The Alternate! I’m currently in pursuit of my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My main mediums are chalk pastel, metalwork, and illustration/comics! This site is meant to be a place where I can share anything art related I want without the pressure of social media. You can call it a “portfolio” of sorts, but its really just a place to put everything I’ve been working on.

This site currently holds a good amount of undergrad work (mostly pastels and comics) completed in recent years. Moving forward, I plan to upload the beginning pages of my Entelement web comic series, as well as sketchbook spreads and anything else I feel like!

So stay tuned!!!

Wait…The Alternate?

The Alternate is simply my alias. It became my “alter ego” namesake through the Making Comics classes at UW Madison. The comics classes were established long ago by Professor Lynda Barry (Professor Peanut), and are continually taught today by Lynda herself, and Jeff Butler (Captain Action). As a right of passage, each new person that enters the comics class gets to choose their “comics name”. This name is used instead of a “real” name, and allows for less performance pressure and more overall creativity within the comics sphere.

Inspiration for the name came from my long-term interest in Alex Kister’s The Mandela Catalogue horror series on YouTube. It’s been my comics name since before I even made my first comic; and I’m very happy that it’s stuck.

In the mean time, feel free to follow me on Instagram at @The_Alternate_Art
